You don't have to apologize when the house isn't "The One"
There’s a funny thing that happens during a home search: buyers start apologizing.
“Sorry, I just don’t think this is the one.”
“I’m sorry we’ve looked at so many.”
“Sorry, I thought I would like it more.”
But you never need to apologize because a house wasn’t right for you. That’s the entire reason we went to see it.
Many people looking for a home in Prince George aren’t in a position where they need to buy immediately. They may already own a home that has slowly become too small or too big. Maybe the layout no longer works, they want a different neighbourhood, or their priorities have simply changed.
Others may be renting somewhere that works perfectly well for now. They’re interested in owning, but they don’t need to rush into a property just to say they bought one.
These buyers are often waiting for a home that feels worth making a move for. And that can take time.
There’s a lot you can learn about a property online, but photos and listing details only tell part of the story. Sometimes a home looks perfect until you walk through the front door. Sometimes the one you nearly scroll past feels completely different in person.
Every showing gives us useful information. Maybe you realize that the beautifully renovated kitchen doesn’t make up for the location. Maybe you thought you needed four bedrooms but discovered that three bedrooms and a better layout would work just as well. Maybe you learn that you’re willing to renovate - but absolutely not live through another bathroom remodel.
That isn’t wasting time. That’s how your search becomes clearer.
Yes, real estate is technically a sales industry, but I’m not here to convince you to buy a particular house.
What I’m really selling is my service: my time, knowledge, advice, negotiation skills and ability to help you understand what you’re looking at. My role is to point out the things worth considering, answer the uncomfortable questions and help you make a decision you feel good about.
I’m not supposed to manufacture an emotional connection between you and a house. If you don’t love it, I don’t need you to find reasons to love it for my benefit.
When the right property does come along, my job shifts. That’s when I help you look past the excitement, assess the risks, build a smart offer and protect your interests throughout the process.
Your home search is allowed to unfold naturally. You don’t have to force a decision because we’ve already viewed several properties, because the market feels competitive or because you’re worried your REALTOR® is getting impatient.
You are allowed to take your time.
You are allowed to change your mind.
And you are absolutely allowed to walk through a house and say, “Nope, not this one.”
Then we close the door, take what we learned from it and keep looking.
